10 Things To Do When You Are Snowed In

Back during my freshman year, I heard the rumors that colleges never cancel classes.  Well, those rumors have been disproven as colleges and universities across the midwest shut down due to a massive winter storm.  Here’s a list of ten things to do when you are snowed in.

1. Surf the Internet
While most of this do this regularly, if you are snowed in, it’s all the better reason to discover five or six exciting websites.  The Internet can make your life easier if you are willing to invest the time into doing research.  You can get news updates, scholarship search engines, YouTube, and streaming online video all on one device.  Isn’t that fascinating?

2. Sleep Late
Although it’s never a good idea to waste time, sometimes sleeping late can make you more productive.  The average American does not get nearly enough sleep, so why not take this opportunity to catch up on some zzz’s?

3. Watch an Amazing Movie
Dust off those old VHS tapes..er...DVDs and pop one into the player or your laptop.  There’s nothing like a comedy or classic to provoke your mind or make you laugh.  Also, you can stream movies instantly through Netflix.  While this takes up a lot of bandwidth, it certainly makes for a relaxing day if there’s snow coming down outside.

4. Play Board Games
We’ve all started a game of Monopoly, but how many of us have actually had the time to finish it?  Make it a point to play a complete game of Monopoly or, if you so please, branch out and play Scrabble, Stratego, Life, Bingo, Chess, Checkers etc.

5. Drink Hot Chocolate
Hot chocolate is truly the beverage of winter.  A steaming cup of hot coco is perfect after a viscous snowball fight or intense sledding session.  Recently, I’ve found out that there are multiple flavors of hot chocolate from Land O Lakes.  Of the few I’ve tried, Graham Cracker Hot Coco is my favorite.  Also, marshmallows optional, but preferred.

6. Read
Even if you aren’t a book worm, picking up a book off the shelf might surprise you.  You can find many books that are 120 pages or less, which you should be able to knock out in less than 2 hours.  If you aren’t one for prose, you can locate a book filled with poetry.  Reading a captivating work of fiction indoors on a snowy day feels more cozy than cracking open a textbook at the library.

7. Make Money Online
Did you know that there are many practical ways you can make money while sitting at your computer?  Try selling your junk on Amazon or answer questions for ChaCha.  If you are really feeling ambitious, start up a blog and attract advertisers.

8. Post On Internet Forums
Whether you are a sword fanatic or a automobile nerd, chances are there is an online forum where like-minded people congregate and share information and knowledge.  Heck, there’s even a forum for Dumpster Divers!  Seize this opportunity to make your opinions and analysis read!

9. Bake Cookies
Homemade chocolate chip cookies are made of win, but if don’t want to start from scratch, you can purchase cookie dough at the local grocery store, assuming you are able to navigate your way through the snow.  One of the simple pleasures of life is eating chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven, then chasing them with ice cold milk.

10. Call a Friend/ Skype
If you are snowed in, chances are most of your friends are off school as well.  Call them up or get on Skype and have yourself a great conversation.  Brandi Synder once said, “To the world you may just be one person, but to one person you may be the world.”  Find out if he was right.
